My wife and I moved to Port Perry in 1989 , when I became the Probation and Parole Officer serving North Durham. In addition to my duties protecting the community I was trained as a mediator within the Ministry. I was recognized for my efforts to keep the community safe by twice being awarded the Corrections Exemplary Service medal by the Governor General of Canada.
I have been an active participant in the community affairs . I served as the Chair of the North Durham Social Development Council . We spearheaded the development of a services directory for North Durham working with the area MPP and initiated the campaign to bring Go Transit to North Durham.
As a father of two active sons, I joined Scouts Canada, first as a Cub Leader with 1st Port Perry Scouts and progressing through the ranks of Scouting to become the District Commissioner of Pine Ridge District Scouts. In 1995 I received a special recognition from Scugog Council. six years later Scouts Canada awarded me the Medal of Merit, in recognition of my accomplishments as a volunteer in the Scouting movement.
In 2003 I joined with a small group of like-minded individuals to raise funds to restore the Port Perry Scout Hall. Although the property had deteriorated over the years it was completely renovated and restored to full use. The partnership between Scugog Township, Port Perry Scouts and Big Brothers of Durham is an example of an effective partnership between government and community agencies .
Parliament has changed . The principles of democracy are being ignored , money is being squandered and without adequate supervision the Conservatives will change the country forever. It’s your country and they are using your money. As a Probation Officer I learned the importance of speaking up when you see bad behavior. As your Member of Parliament I will represent you with integrity and be your watchdog in Ottawa.
